From Visualisation to Mobilisation: The Case of Palestine in a Transnational Context Explored

Hanan Toukan completed her PhD at SOAS, University of London in 2012. Her thesis, “Art, Aid, Affect: Locating the Political in Post-Civil War Lebanon’s Contemporary Cultural Practices” won the 2012 Middle East Studies Association of North American (MESA) Malcom H. Kerr award for best PhD in the Social Sciences. She is currently completing a book manuscript based on her PhD titled “Global Encounters: The Politics and Poetics of Post-War Art in Lebanon”. From 2009-2012 she taught at SOAS in the Department of Politics and International Studies and the Center for Media and Film Studies. She has also guest-lectured at Goldsmiths, University of London and the Free University of Berlin. She was a EUME postdoctoral Felllow at the Forum for Transregional Studies in Berlin in 2012-2013 and a CBRL Visiting Research Fellow at the Kenyon Institute in East Jerusalem and Amman in 2012. Her publications have appeared in numerous edited volumes and peer-reviewed journals such as the Arab Studies journal and Cultural Politics (forthcoming). As a joint DRS fellow at the BGSMCS and the Center for Middle Eastern and African Politics at FU  in 2014-2016 Toukan will continue her ongoing research titled "From Visualisation to Mobilisation: Palestine in a Transnational Context Explored".
