Philip Geisler at MESA’s 2021 Annual Meeting
Our doctoral fellow Philip Geisler co-organizes the panel "Islamic Art and the Politics of Museum Display" at this year’s Annual Meeting of the Middle East Studies Association (MESA). The panel explores the politics of curatorial practices, museum displays, and art discourses in public and private museums including the Malek National Museum (Tehran), the National Museum and the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts (Istanbul), the Louvre Museum (Paris), the Alhambra Museum (Granada), and the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto from 2000 until today. Philip Geisler will contribute a paper titled "Islamic Art as a Multicultural Mythology in Spain and Canada.“ The panel is sponsored by the Historians of Islamic Art Association (HIAA) and will take place online on November 30th, at 11:30 AM (EST).
