This project will focus on the making and shaping of Bengali nationalism among the Bengali Muslims in the period between 1900 and 1947. In particular, the research aims to explore the extent to which nationalism was expressed through the intellectual and political activities of Bengali Muslims; the influence of political and Islamic ideas from the Middle East and Turkey; and the role of the increasing cosmopolitan intellectualism in Dhaka after the foundation of Dhaka University in shaping Bengali nationalism.
