Abbas Jong received his PhD in sociology from the Department of Social Sciences at Humboldt University of Berlin in September 2022. After his doctorate, he worked as a researcher and lecturer at Humboldt University, Kiel University, the University of Erfurt, and the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History (ZZF). His work primarily engages social theory, global studies, intellectual history in modern Iran and the broader Islamic world, political and reformist Islam, social movements, and Iranian studies.

 

 

Since August 2024, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies (BGSMCS), Freie Universität Berlin. His current research project at BGSMCS examines the intellectual history of modern Iran, focusing on conceptual transformations of modernity and reformist/political Islam, and on the movements associated with them, in Iran. His postdoctoral research at BGSMCS is funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation.
