Transcending national boundaries. The role of the EU and pan-European Muslim organisations in the discursive field of "European Islam".

Adela Taleb graduated with a M.A. in Near and Middle Eastern Studies, from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. In her M.A. thesis she worked on visual Orientalism. Prior to her studies at SOAS, she underwent training in the Study of Religions, Political Science and Anthropology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich. In her PhD thesis she is shifting her area focus from the MENA region to Europe, continuing her research interest in questions of representation, identity politics, modern trends in Islam and critical theory.

Transcending national boundaries. The role of the EU and pan-European Muslim organisations in the discursive field of "European Islam"

The PhD project is aimed at investigating the formation of 'European Islam' from a discourse analytical approach, looking at available subject positions within this discursive configuration, instruments of power, and mechanisms of norm-setting with regard to 'Islam' and 'Europe'.
