Social Media and the Rise of Authoritarianism in Turkey
Hakan Yüksel received his PhD in 2013 from Ankara University in Turkey with a thesis on information society policies. He has several publications inquiring the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for the development of Turkey. He has two MA degrees; one from University Paris 13 on information and communication sciences and the other from Ankara University on journalism. Before starting his academic career, he worked as a professional journalist in Turkish media between 1999 and 2006. Since the beginning of 2016, he has been mainly studying the role of social media in the rise of authoritarianism in Turkey and around the world.
