Between Identity and Citizenship: The Conscription of the Muslim Population into the Army of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes/Yugoslavia (1918-1941)
The main aim of this project is to examine the status of the individuals from the Muslim community drafted to the military during the time period of the First Yugoslavia in the context of their integration into the Yugoslav society. Although the military in the region is usually perceived through political and war perspectives, I aim to approach the military through its social dimension. In a disintegrated society such, such as the Yugoslav society, there is a social dimension in the military that cannot be overlooked. In larger perspective the research deals with the questions of identity policies and the policies of integration in multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic societies. The goal of the research is to examine the policies of the military of the monarchist Yugoslavia directed at the integration of the Muslims. It is worth emphasizing that the study focuses not only on the Slavic-speaking Muslims, but also on the non-Slavic Muslim population (the Albanian and Turkish population).
