Panel discussion with Cesy Leonard (Zentrum für Politische Schönheit) and Heba Amin (BGSMCS).
organised and presented by Dr Aleksandra Lewicki
Performance art can draw attention to what would otherwise slip from view. Specifically, action based art that unfolds in the public square can irritate and performatively interrupt routinized sequences or rituals, and thereby render alternative realities accessible. The works of Egyptian artists Heba Amin and the collective Centre for Political Beauty have, for instance, performatively challenged racism, or problematized how EU border policies attribute differential value to human life. This panel discussion at the Freie Universität Berlin offers space for a conversation with and between the artists. The event is hosted by sociologist Aleksandra Lewicki.
