The documentary "Waiting for Abu Zayd" by Syrian director Mohamed Ali Atassi deals with the famous liberation theologian Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd. His examination and critique of the religious discourse of Egypt forced him into the European exile. In his movie, Atassi accompanies him to lectures and has intensive talks about democracy, human rights, feminism and his life in exile.
After the screening there will be a discussion with Islam Dayeh (Junior professor for arabic studies at the Freie Universität Berlin) and Umar Ryad (Associate Professor for Islamic Studies at the University of Utrecht).
The showing happens on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the death of Abu Zayd.
