The Middle East and the Islamic World in the Mirror of Humanities and Social Sciences
Joint International Conference, 24–26 September 2015
The German Middle East Studies Association for Contemporary Research and Documentation (DAVO) and the Islamic Studies Section of the German Oriental Society (DMG) are pleased to announce their Joint International Conference which will take place on 24–26 September 2015 at Ruhr University Bochum, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Ruhr University. For the Islamic Studies Section it fills the space between the two Orientalists' Conferences (Deutscher Orientalistentag) of Münster (2013) and Jena (2017). Simultaneously with this event, the 4th PhD Conference on International Development will be organized by the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy of Ruhr University on 24–25 September.
Given the dramatic changes in the Middle East and the Islamic World, which in many cases resist classification according to established categories, the conference will provide a forum for methodological exchange between the different disciplines of the humanities and the social sciences in their research on the historical and contemporary Middle East and the Islamic World. At the same time, the PhD Conference offers PhD students with various academic backgrounds the possibility to present and discuss their specific PhD projects with a regionally open and interdisciplinary audience.
