Jan Thiele, alumnus of the Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies, received the Research Prize of the Annemarie-Schimmel-Stiftung für Islamkunde for his dissertation. The award ceremony was part of the official opening of this year’s Deutscher Orientalistentag in Münster. Jan Thiele’s study offers an account of the life and thought of al-Ḥasan ar-Raṣṣāṣ (d. 1188 C.E.), who was among the most influential theologians of Yemeni Zaydism. It was published in 2013 by Brill (Leiden) as Theologie in der jemenitischen Zaydiyya: Die naturphilosophischen Überlegungen des al-Ḥasan ar-Raṣṣāṣ.
