Giedrė Šabasevičiūtė is a post-doctoral fellow at the Oriental Institute, Czech Academy of Sciences. She received her doctoral degree in sociology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris for her dissertation on Sayyid Qutb's intellectual networks. Currently, she is working on her book manuscript entitled Islamism and Literature in Colonial and Nasser's Egypt. The Intellectual Journey of Sayyid Qutb, and conducting her research on literary clubs in contemporary Cairo bringing together writers and poets of religious background. Her research foci are the sociology of intellectuals, historical uses of the term "revolution" in Egypt, Islam and literature, and contemporary transnational networks of literature in the Middle East.
