"(Re)Negotiating Boundaries and Borders in Muslim Cultures and Societies" 

Die Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies bietet ein vielfältiges Literatur-, Film- und Musikprogramm an und lädt zu einem für den Fastenmonat Ramadan traditionellen Getränk ein. Für Kinder gibt es einen Basteltisch, an dem Namensschilder in verschiedenen Sprachen sowie ägyptische Laternen gebastelt werden können. Besuchen Sie uns in der Holzlaube (Fabeckstr. 23-25) im zweiten Stockwerk! 


5 pm−9 pm: Kids activities (Foyer, rooms 2.2058 and 2.2059) 

Paint your name in different languages (Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, and Turkish), create your own bookmark and make Ramadan paper lanterns. 

5 pm−11 pm: Poster exhibition (2.2059)

The research projects by doctoral researchers from the year 2017 of the Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies from different disciplines will be on display. Members of the Graduate School will be present to answer questions, deepen information and to engage with our work. 

The Master’s degree program ‘Intellectual Encounters of the Islamicate World’ will be on display in a digital presentation. 

7 pm− 7.30 pm: Grenzenlos studieren und lehren – Das Online-Studium des 21. Jahrhunderts (room 2.2059) 

Was passiert, wenn sich internationale Studierende und Dozenten in einem Online-Studiengang begegnen? Das Team des MA Intellectual Encountes of the Islamicate World stellt interkulturelle Aspekte und moderne Lehr- und Lerntechnologien vor, die Zukunft der akademischen Lehre mitbestimmen werden. 

8 pm− 8.30 pm: Maqama reading (room 2.2058) 

Maqāmah is a literary genre that originated in the Arabic world. Alternating between eloquent prose and poetry, this form of literature is common in the Islamic world, from the Middle East to Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Maqamat were primarily aimed at educated audiences and explored complex topics through the narratives of its central characters. Reading in Arabic and German. 

9 pm-10.30 pm: Short Film screening (room 2.2058) 

In cooperation with the Arab Film Festival Berlin, we will be screening three films that look at understanding, contesting, and transforming boundaries and borders in everyday life.

5 pm− 8 pm & 10.30 pm – 12 midnight: Music and drinks on the terrace (room 2.2058, terrace) 

Free juice will be available! Sample some traditional Egyptian Ramadan drinks, such as Kharoub. 

While enjoying that cool drink, listen to a selection of music from the places where we do our work, ranging from Europe, West Africa and South Asia.
